Artist Statement
At the core of my practice is a desire to make light tangible. A sliver of sunlight illuminates, but it is also felt, its warmth and glow traveling a vast distance through space and time to land gently within my own reach. With my camera I observe how our smallest and closest moments are connected to something great and far. I discover images from my family archive, and collect objects that I see as kindred spirits to the photographic, their surfaces marked by time and touch. Creasing, folding, and crumpling my film before making photographs allows me to explore my physical relationship to photography and expand the way that light-sensitive material creates a record. I arrange and rearrange these materials, moments, and memories to explore how light can be held and interwoven through past and present.
